National Good Neighbor Day is September 28, 2024!
National Good Neighbor Day is exactly how it sounds – to BE a good neighbor!
How can you celebrate Good Neighbor Day?
- Hand-deliver a homemade casserole or dessert.
- Pick flowers and gift them to your neighbor.
- Assist your neighbor with lawn care (ex. mowing, weed-eating, picking branches, pulling weeds)
- Sit outside with your neighbor and have a good-ole’ conversation. How was their day? What’s their favorite recipe, do they have any secret tips to share when prepping the recipe?
- Color a picture for them and hand-deliver it. (Pictures are linked below. You can save and print from home, or pick one up at the Finance Office.)
- If you’re making a grocery-run to town, ask them if they need anything.
Most importantly, don’t overcomplicate it! Being a good neighbor is simple and genuine. If we don’t teach our kids, today’s youth, the important of knowing and caring for those who live around us, who will?
How did Good Neighbor Day come about? Below is a snippet from Good Neighbor Day’s website explaining when it was established.

It was created in the early 1970s by Becky Mattson of Lakeside, Montana. In 1978, United States President Jimmy Carter issued Proclamation 4601:
“As our Nation struggles to build friendship among the peoples of this world, we are mindful that the noblest human concern is concern for others. Understanding, love and respect build cohesive families and communities. The same bonds cement our Nation and the nations of the world. For most of us, this sense of community is nurtured and expressed in our neighborhoods where we give each other an opportunity to share and feel part of a larger family…I call upon the people of the United States and interested groups and organizations to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
Let’s color Langford!
Please color one, or all, of the below photos and hang them in your windows by September 28! You may print the pages at your home, or you can obtain the coloring sheets from Kaitie at the Finance Office.
