Key Historical Milestones of the Town of Langford, SD.
1886: The town site was officially laid out and platted by founder Sam Langford.
1892: Local blacksmith Will Mann partnered with inventor John Froehlich and built/tested a prototype of the first successful gasoline-powered tractor right in Langford.
1923: The town received its first electricity via a power line from Aberdeen. To this day, Langford owns and operates its own electrical grid.
1938: A 30,000-gallon municipal water tower was completed. It was replaced in 2020 but remains a preserved historical landmark.
